February is American Heart Health Month, 30% of all Cake Pop proceeds will go to the American Heart Association.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease affects one in three female adults and continues to be the leading cause of death in women. Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power that women have and can use to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke.
More women of all ages are getting the message that heart disease is their #1 killer, and awareness is encouraging women to reduce their risk of heart disease. However, barriers to changing their behavior still remains. While studies show gains in awareness, most women still aren’t’ taking the steps they should to improve their heart health.
One-third of women underestimate their own risk for heart disease, and only 16 percent of women consider heart disease to be their greatest health problem.
As we approach National Wear Red Day® on Friday, February 4th, Americans are encouraged to wear red to remind women that heart disease is indeed their #1 killer. The Red Dress® is the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness. Put on a red shirt, tie, dress, or a Red Dress Pin on this national day.
The Heart Truth®—a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)—also wants women to know the good news, it’s never too early—or too late—to take action to prevent and control the risk factors associated with heart disease.
In fact, by leading a healthy lifestyle, American women can lower their risk of heart disease by as much as 82 percent. Eating right, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking are 4 steps women can take to lower their risk of heart disease.
